Today we’ll drive East from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem to the Sheikh Hussein border crossing and make our entry into Jordan. Our first stop is Jerash – city of the Decapolis, located about 45km north of Amman in the fertile heights of the Gilad. Our visit to the ancient Roman city will reveal colonnaded streets, elaborate public baths, lovely temples and a beautiful arch to commemorate a visit by the Emperor Hadrian. The short drive to Amman will set us up for a panoramic city tour of the bustling Jordanian capital. We’ll overnight here.

Day 2 – Monday

Amman • Petra

After early breakfast, leave the hotel and travel south on the road to Wadi Musa, the modern village of Petra. Walk, or ride on horseback, to the “Siq” (canyon) and then on foot into Petra, known as “Sela Edom” or red rock city, the ancient capital of the Nabateans from the 3rd century B.C. to 2nd Century A.D. Visit the most impressive Monuments: the Treasury, El Khazneh (a tomb of a Nabatean king) then the field of tombs, obelisks, the altar, (Al Madhbah) – from this point you can view the whole of the rock city, then back to Wadi Musa village. Overnight in Petra. (B)

Day 3 – Tuesday

Petra • Madaba • Mount Nebo • Allenby Bridge • Jerusalem • Tel Aviv

On the drive north to the capital, we’ll stop at Madaba to visit the remains of the Byzantine church with its mosaic floor map, the oldest surviving cartographic depiction of the Holy Land and Jerusalem. About 10 kms. Further on we’ll get to Mount Nebo, where Moses first viewed the Promised Land. From here you’ll see the Jordan Valley, Jericho and even the Dead Sea. We’ll visit the remains of an on-site 4th century Byzantine church with a glorious mosaic floor before heading to the border and onward to Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. (B)
